Dosage chart for RC O3 Algeolie
Short version: see the overview
How to read the tables
All doses are in millilitres and show the daily amount to feed your horse. First find the situation your horse is in, then its weight. Normal is the standard dose, and Ekstra is the increased dose.
If you feed Peak Performance, it already contains algae oil. Your horse then won't usually need extra algae oil on top.

Before the competition season
To optimise muscle development, performance and recovery, give your competition horse RC O3 Algeolie 12 to 16 weeks before the season starts. We recommend giving your competition horse omega-3 all year round, either with RC O3 Algeolie or with Peak Performance.
In-foal mare and breeding stallion
The dose is the same as for horses in general, so 2.5 ml per 100 kg on the Normal dose and 5 ml per 100 kg on Ekstra.

Before the covering season
To optimise fertility, give breeding stallions and broodmares RC O3 Algeolie 12 to 16 weeks before covering.
Periods of increased strain
During periods of increased strain, such as after physical activity, during rehabilitation or during a flare-up of seasonal itchy skin, give 10 ml per 100 kg of horse a day.

|---|---|
| 200 kg | 20 ml |

Before the midge season
Start giving your sweet itch horse the Normal dose of RC O3 Algeolie in mid-January to optimise the immune system.
Before the allergy season
Start giving your allergy-prone horse the Normal dose 12 to 16 weeks before the allergy season begins, again to optimise the immune system.
During a flare-up
Give your horse the Ekstra dose for as long as there are visible symptoms. Then go back to the Normal dose.
Feeding and introduction
We recommend feeding RC O3 Algeolie together with Every Day Happy and +Fiber Mash, so the omega-3 is absorbed optimally in your horse's body.
Remember that even a horse that loves its food can be sensitive to taste and a creature of habit. So introduce it slowly to the new smell and taste. Start with a very small dose and increase it over the following days.
Urgent need
If your horse urgently needs the algae oil and has to have a large amount daily but won't eat it, use a plastic syringe. Measure out the oil and squirt it directly into the mouth. Finish by giving your horse a piece of rye bread or a carrot.
What's in the oil
RC O3 Algeolie contains 69% omega-3, and EPA and DHA together make up 581 mg per gram. Peak Performance already contains algae oil, so a horse on Peak Performance won't usually need extra.
How to work out the workload
If you need to decide whether your horse is a competition horse or an ordinary horse in work, it's the total workload that decides. The minutes below are per session.
| Workload | What a session looks like | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Light work and turnout | 20 minutes walk, 10 minutes trot and 10 minutes canter | 40 minutes, 1-6 times a week |
| Moderate work | 30 minutes walk, 20 minutes trot and 35 minutes canter | 1 hour 15 minutes, 4-6 times a week |
| Hard work | 40 minutes walk, 35 minutes trot, 50 minutes canter and 15 minutes gallop | 2 hours 30 minutes, 2-3 times a week |
If rider and tack weigh more than 20% of the horse's weight, the horse's requirements increase. The optimal rider-to-horse ratio is 1:5.
Don't know your horse's weight?
You can work it out with a girth measurement. Take the measurement in metres, multiply it by itself twice, then multiply by 80. A girth of 1.7 metres gives 1.7 times 1.7 times 1.7 times 80, so roughly 392 kg.
- You should be able to feel the ribs but not see them. If it takes firm pressure to feel them, the horse is overweight. If you can see them, it's underweight
- Always feed according to your horse's current weight, not its ideal weight
- Check the weight at least once a month, and weekly if your horse is changing
