How we calculate

The numbers behind the calculation

  1. Vitamins and minerals. We look up Every Day Happy and Peak Performance in our dosage chart by weight, age and work. We don't calculate between the rows, so the weight goes up in steps of 50 kg.

  2. Stallions get the amount in the chart plus 10 %. Foals get 1 g per kg of foal per day. Youngstock are fed according to their expected adult weight in light work.

  3. Mash and algae oil are calculated as a fixed amount per 100 kg of horse, based on workload and dosage. For demanding work we use +Energy Fiber Mash.

  4. Salt: Every Day Happy and Peak Performance already provide about 3 g of salt per 100 kg per day. That's why the extra salt your horse needs on top of them is less than its total requirement. If you feed Supreme Minerals, we count the full requirement.

Grams per 100 kg horse per day.
WorkloadTotal requirementIn addition to Every Day Happy/Peak Performance
    Light work/pasture 13 10
    Moderate work 18 to 20 15 to 17
    Demanding work 25 to 30 22 to 27
  5. The price is the pack price incl. VAT divided by the grams or ml, multiplied by the daily amount. We calculate using the largest pack size. A month is 30 days.

  6. Without a forage mineral analysis we calculate with Ekstra dosage. That way there are enough trace minerals, even when the forage content is unknown. Foals and youngstock always get Normal dosage.

Do you have a forage mineral analysis?

If your analysis has roughly these values, you can safely use the Normal dosage of Every Day Happy, Peak Performance or Supreme Minerals:

  • Copper: 4 to 5 mg/kg
  • Zinc: 20 to 22 mg/kg
  • Manganese: 40 to 50 mg/kg
  • Iron: 100 to 110 mg/kg
  • Calcium: 4 g/kg dry matter
  • Phosphorus: 2.0 to 3.0 g/kg dry matter

Horses absorb only about 10 to 15 % of the iron in forage. With low iron values, we always recommend the Ekstra dosage.

Foals and youngstock

Youngstock from 6 to 36 months are fed according to their expected adult weight, using the amount for light work/turnout.

Broodmares
  • Months 1 to 8 of pregnancy: feed according to workload.
  • Months 9 to 11 of pregnancy: as a horse in moderate work.
  • After foaling: the first 3 months as hard work, then moderate until weaning.
  • If the mare is both in foal and lactating: feed as hard work throughout.
Stallions

Stallions get the amount in the chart plus 10 %

What role does workload play?
  • Light work/turnout: 20 min walk, 10 min trot and 10 min canter, 1 to 6 times a week.
  • Moderate work: 30 min walk, 20 min trot and 35 min canter, 4 to 6 times a week.
  • Hard work: 40 min walk, 35 min trot, 50 min canter and 15 min gallop, 2 to 3 times a week.
