What is Mash?

Mash is not just a treat – it is a tool to give the horse extra fiber, energy and fluid.


How to use Mash

  • Can be given dry or soaked
  • Use cold or lukewarm water (e.g. lukewarm in winter)
  • The amount of water is up to you and your horse – some prefer it very thin, others more rich.
  • Let it drag in 15–20 minutes if you want to serve it softened

Dosage

65–500 g per 100 kg body weight per day – depending on the horse's needs.

➡️ A horse weighing 500 kg can therefore have between 325 g and 2.5 kg daily .

Important things to know about Mash

  • +Fiber Mash → low calorie content, suitable for digestion and frugal horses
  • +Energy Fiber Mash → higher energy content, suitable for horses in work or condition building

  • Therefore, it is advantageous to mix vitamins and minerals in the mash:

    • The fibers support digestion so that nutrients are better utilized.
    • The water content contributes to fluid balance – especially important in hot weather or after exercise
    • Mash acts as a soft base that makes feeding simple and manageable

  • Transportation and rallies → provides extra fluid and fiber when the horse is on the move
  • Hot weather or after exercise → helps the horse regain fluid and energy
