Does your horse tend to have skin irritation during insect season? Here is a practical guide on how you can best support your horse through feeding and management.
Protect your horse as best as possible
- Eczema blanket – Use a blanket both in the pen and in the barn if the barn is not a mite-free zone. They simply need to be protected as much as possible from insects and bites.
- Avoid sunrise and sunset – Insects are most active during these times. Keep the horse in a stable or provide good ventilation and insect screens.
- Avoid standing water – Insects breed in areas with standing water such as lakes and ponds.
The diet should be optimized in terms of vitamins, minerals, fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids, as these nutrients support the skin's natural function and well-being.
Biologically effective feeding in 3 phases
A thoroughly tested feeding plan that supports the skin's natural balance throughout the insect season.
The basis for an optimal feeding plan
To ensure your horse has the best conditions, always start with high-quality straw feed such as grass, hay or wrap – in quantities adapted to the horse's weight and needs. A good straw feed ensures stable digestion and supports the horse's general well-being.
To ensure optimal nutritional support, you can choose between the following two methods:
Method 1
- Every Day Happy – a complete supplement of vitamins and minerals
- Salt – an important electrolyte that supports fluid balance
- RC O3 Algae Oil – rich in the beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA
Adapt the feeding to the horse's needs
The horse's work level and activity level should be taken into account so that the feeding always supports its well-being and performance.
NOTE: The dosage is per 100 kg body weight and should be adjusted individually according to the horse's needs and work level.
Horses and ponies (0-14 years)
| Phase | Happy every day | + Fiber Mash | Salt | RC O3 Algae Oil |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 (the first 8 weeks) | 85g | 85g | 10g | 10 ml |
| Phase 2 (when the skin/fur is calm) | 65g | 85g | 10g | 10 ml |
| Phase 3 (if skin condition remains stable) | 65g | 85g | 10g | 5ml |
Senior horses (15+ years)
| Phase | Happy every day | + Fiber Mash | Salt | RC O3 Algae Oil |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 (the first 8 weeks) | 100g | 85g | 15g | 10 ml |
| Phase 2 (when the skin/fur is calm) | 80g | 85g | 15g | 10 ml |
| Phase 3 (if skin condition remains stable) | 80g | 85g | 15g | 5ml |
Direct skin care
Apply RC O3 Algae Oil directly to the affected areas – even if the skin is irritated. Use a soft brush or glove to ensure even and gentle distribution. Continue every day or every other day until the skin is calm.
New attacks?
If skin becomes irritated again, switch back to phase 1 to provide optimal support.
Method 2
Extra effort – choose Peak Performance
Do you want a more concentrated solution? Peak Performance contains both RC O3 Algae Oil and RC Movement and can replace Every Day Happy.
Benefits of Peak Performance
