Feeding during stressful periods: Intense training, stress, rehabilitation, and stomach ulcer challenges

Read here about nutrition during rehabilitation, hard work and stressful periods – RC Movement and RC O3 Algae Oil.

What is RC Movement?

RC Movement is a special supplement developed for horses during periods of increased physical or mental strain. It contains carefully selected nutrients that support the normal function of muscles, joints and connective tissue – and is therefore a simple tool to adjust feeding during rehabilitation, hard work and stressful periods.

What is RC O3 Algae Oil?

RC O3 Algae Oil is a clean and sustainable source of omega-3 fatty acids, which the horse may otherwise lack, especially when fed wrap or hay. Omega-3 contributes to the normal function of muscles, joints, immune system, skin and coat – and helps ensure a better balance between omega-3 and omega-6 in the diet.

What happens in the body?

When the horse is in rehabilitation, working hard or exposed to stressful situations such as transport or competitions, the load on the muscles, joints and connective tissue increases. At the same time, the need for energy, protein and selected nutrients increases so that the body can function normally under pressure.

How much should my horse have?

👉 Always supplement with high-quality roughage and adjust feeding to activity level.

  • Protein and energy → key factors for muscles and tissues.
  • Electrolytes/salt → important for fluid balance when sweating.
  • Omega-3 → supports normal function of muscles, joints and the immune system.
  • Extra nutrients → may be necessary during periods of particular stress.

RC Movement – per 100 kg body weight per day:

  • Maintenance/rehabilitation: 1 g
  • Hard work/stress periods: 3–5 g
    ➡️ A horse weighing 500 kg: 5 g of rehabilitation or 15–25 g of hard work/stress.

RC O3 Algae Oil – per 100 kg body weight per day:

  • Maintenance: 2.5–5 ml
  • Competition/increased load: 5–10 ml
➡️ A horse weighing 500 kg: 12.5–50 ml daily, depending on needs.

Important to know

  • Every Day Happy and Supreme Minerals cover the basic needs → but during periods of extra stress it may be beneficial to supplement with RC Movement and RC O3 Algae Oil.
  • Peak Performance already contains both RC O3 Algae Oil and RC Movement → additional is usually not necessary.

Increased support during special periods

There are times when the horse needs some extra vitamins and minerals, for example:

  • During the moulting season → greater demands on fur and skin
  • At rallies or transportation → stress, sweat loss and increased strain
  • When the horse is challenged → e.g. when changing environment or training harder

👉 In these situations, you can increase the dosage of EDH or PP by 50–60% for a total of a few days up to 4–6 weeks.
Then you return to the normal daily dosage.

💡 Practical tip:

  • If the horse is picky about oil → start with a small dose and increase slowly, or give directly into the mouth as a deworming treatment.
  • Feel free to mix RC Movement in yogurt, rapeseed or algae oil, for example, and give it in a syringe directly into the mouth.

When is RC Movement an advantage?

  • Rehabilitation after a break → contributes to the normal function of muscles and connective tissue.
  • Hard work and competition → adapts feeding to the body's increased needs.
  • Stressful periods (e.g. transportation, change of environment, competitions) → supports the body's normal processes when it is extra challenged.
  • Long-term health → contributes to the normal function of muscles, joints and tissues.

When is RC O3 Algae Oil an advantage?

  • For daily feeding → helps ensure a balance between omega-3 and omega-6.
  • During training and performance → supports normal energy metabolism and muscle function.
  • For skin, coat and hooves → can contribute to shiny coat, normal skin and healthy hooves.
  • For the immune system → supports the body's normal function during periods of increased stress.

👉 RC Movement and RC O3 Algae Oil are simple tools to adjust feeding during periods when the horse is under greater physical or mental stress.
