Most people have heard of superfoods – berries, algae or seeds with lots of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
We use them ourselves because they provide a lot of nutrition in small quantities – and in the same way, horses can benefit from them in their feed.
What are superfoods?
Superfoods are foods with a particularly high content of nutrients.
It can be anything from exotic berries like aronia to completely common ingredients like flaxseed or nettle.
You could say they are a kind of “nutritional booster” that gives the body extra fuel in a natural way.
Antioxidants – a good example
When both humans and horses use energy, free radicals are formed. They need to be kept in balance, and antioxidants play an important role here.
That's why superfoods are often associated with high antioxidant content.
