Many horse owners find that it can be a challenge to help their horse lose weight – without affecting energy, muscle condition or desire to exercise.
But it is possible to support healthy weight regulation through a simple and balanced feeding plan that is based on the horse's needs.
When less is not always better
It seems logical to feed less when the horse needs to lose weight. But the body is complex – and if the feeding plan no longer covers the needs for, for example, vitamins, minerals, amino acids (protein) and fatty acids, it can affect the horse's well-being.
Instead of focusing solely on quantities, it's about ensuring quality and balance - so that the body receives the right signals through feeding.
An approach with the body at the center
At Regulator Complete, we work based on three basic principles in feeding horses in need of weight regulation:
✅ Balanced vitamin, mineral and Omega-3 supply
✅ Fiber that fills you up without weighing you down
✅ Clear structure and easy-to-understand feeding plan
This approach creates an overview and can help the horse maintain well-being and vitality, while adjusting its weight over time.
A total solution
Regulator Complete's feeding solutions are developed to make feeding simple and transparent – without unnecessary supplements or guesswork.
We often see that a well-thought-out feeding plan that suits the horse's needs and the roughage it receives helps to support health, make everyday life easier, and create more presence and joy in being with the horse.
📌 Example of feeding plan per 100 kg body weight
(Applies to adult horses in maintenance and light work)
• 65 g Every Day Happy (80 g for senior horses)
• 65 g +Fiber Mash
• 10g salt
• 5–10 g RC O3 Algae Oil
• Approximately 1.0 kg of good quality hay or wrap (with low sugar content below 5-6%)
• For low protein content: 50–150 g soy meal daily
• Approximately 1 kg of straw
